On December 28, the University staged a high-level forum headed the "Innovation Dialogue Suzhou (2016)" at the Conference Center, Suzhou Industrial Park. By staging this Forum, the University aims to comprehensively implement the integration development strategy of "a renowned university in a well-known city" as envisioned by Soochow University and Suzhou, offer advice and recommendations for the "successful transformation" of Suzhou's innovation development, and facilitate further reforms and developments of Suzhou. Experts from top universities at home and abroad and leaders of varying ranks from Suzhou Municipal Government were invited to attend this Forum.
As commented by President Xiong Sidong, who presided over this Forum, this Forum was held with the theme of "Gathering Power for Innovation: How Suzhou Takes the Lead". Pursuant to which, all members of the city will make joint efforts to address the "Four Questions on Innovation" proposed by Party Secretary Li Qiang. These four questions refer to such special topics as discussed at this Forum as "Suzhou's leading role in the innovation structure of Jiangsu", "Suzhou's pursuit of creative achievements during promoting independent innovation", "Suzhou's development of landmark brands in addition to comprehensively improving innovation ", and "Suzhou's better representation of its openness and inclusiveness during building an innovation ecosystem". This Forum aims to offer advice and recommendations for the successful transformation of innovation development, while facilitating further reforms and developments of Suzhou.
Thirteen experts and scholars from top domestic universities and government decision-making and research institutions delivered keynote speeches respectively. They presented a feast of thoughts and knowledge for addressing the "Four Questions on Innovation". Subsequently, through interaction, the participants along with experts and scholars engaged in a face-to-face exchange and discussion with the theme of "Gathering Power for Innovation".
As the mayor of Suzhou, Mr. Qu Futian expressed in his closing remarks heartfelt gratitude to all experts for offering advice and recommendations on how Suzhou leads and delivers the theme of "Gathering Power for Innovation". As pointed out by him, this unique Forum reflects the extensive integration of Soochow University and Suzhou, promotes connection and interaction between theories and practices, and presents concepts, strategies, and policies.
According to President Xiong at the end, Soochow University is an important part of Suzhou's innovation-driven strategy, while the "Four Questions on Innovation" is a major task assigned by the new provincial Party Committee leaders to Suzhou and Soochow University. In the future, Soochow University will join hands with Suzhou to advance forward bravely, and implement the integration development strategy of "a renowned university in a well-known city" meticulously. To meet Suzhou's strategic needs actively, the University will expedite the extensive integration of Soochow University's innovation resources into Suzhou's economic society, while developing a community featuring integrated and innovated development of universities and local businesses. With practical actions, the University will perfectly address Suzhou's "Four Questions on Innovation".
